The primary functions of detectable marking tape are location and identification, rather than providing a warning during excavation. For this reason, installation depth is not as critical for detectable tapes as it is for underground warning tapes. Consult the project engineer for specific requirements; detectable marking tape should not be buried deeper than the engineer allows based on the tracer wire and locating equipment being used.
