Welcome to this episode of ATE where we answer the Internet's most burning questions.

So, today's question is: “Hey Rhino, should I use buried warning tape to protect my pipeline?” Uh, no. You should not. You should use something much stronger. Something that will actually create a barrier above your pipeline, protecting it better. So, we say you should use Signaltape®.

Signaltape® has a three-thousand-pound tensile strength aramid fiber membrane. Translation – it’s strong as. Unlike other warning tape that often ends up in the spoils when dug up. This stuff holds strong and will alert everyone that a pipeline is below.

Additionally, it is flexible and easy to install. Here’s the bottom line: your company cannot afford a damage to your facility, even if you take all of the other necessary precautions to prevent a third-party damage and a damage does occur, regardless of who’s at fault, your company will be blamed in the public eye. Even if some contractor is not playing by the rules and damages your facility, it will be on you and you cannot afford that. Consider it your best last defense.

In 2016, the average cost to repair a natural gas transmission line was $386,000. At about $1 per foot, Signaltape® is an insignificant cost when compared to repairing a facility damage. So, should I use buried warning tape?

No. Use something better. Use Signaltape®. I think we have time for one more question.

“Hey Rhino, what is the best kind of beer?” Cold.
